Alphie Mixer 10 LTE was procured by Civil Engineering Dept of IIT Delhi Homogeneous mix of binary, ternary and quaternary blended cements in dry state was tried for to check the performance of the instrument. The raw materials used for making blends were, ordinary Portland cement (OPC), fly ash, slag, calcined clay, limestone, calcium sulfate etc. The raw materials were selected on the basis of their specific gravity ranging from 2.4 (for calcined clay) to 3. 12 (OPC).
The blends were tried to mix in the presence of steel balls of die. 12.5 mm and 5mm. The main purpose of using balls during mixing was to break the agglomerated clay particles during mixing. As one of the positive feature of the instrument, the blending of small quantity of can be easily done without any additional accessory The equipment is simple to use and easy to mount. The instrument can be very helpful for homogeneously mixing the dry powders various specific gravity. The programmable mixing system of the instrument really helps the user to allow homogeneous mixing at different speeds in forward and backward direction varying with time. The equipment has been in use with us for 3 months and has functioned satisfactorily in this duration. The longest we have used the equipment continuously is for 8 hours.
